Stephens voted Legislator of the Year for 2007 by Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce

Rep Stephens was invited to attend the annual Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce dinner. As part of the presentation ceremonies, Representative Stephens and Representative Bob Gardner received awards as the 2007 Legislators of the year.

The Chamber thanked both representatives for their efforts to defend business interests and for supporting a climate that helps jobs to grow in Colorado.

State Rep. Amy Stephens, R-Monument, was elected unanimously Friday to serve as caucus chairwoman for the House Republicans, a position in which she will be in charge of keeping party members focused on the goals of their leaders.

Stephens, a freshman, takes over the caucus position that was vacated Wednesday by Rep. Bill Cadman, a Colorado Springs Republican who is preparing to resign his House seat after receiving an appointment to a vacant Senate seat.

“She has been a powerful advocate for our conservative causes,” Rep. Frank Mc-Nulty, R-Highlands Ranch, said of Stephens. “Her talents are much needed by our caucus.”

The election came one day after Stephens and fellow freshman Rep. Bob Gardner, R Colorado Springs, were named the 2007 Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce legislators of the year.

Stephens awarded "Common Sense in the Courtroom" award

DENVER - Rep Amy Stephens of Monument has been awarded the Colorado Civil Justice League's 2007 "Common Sense in the Courtroom" award, that group said today. The award is given to legislators who have supported civil justice reforms at the state capitol and voted consistently to limit the unnecessary spread of liability.

"We're pleased to present Representative Stephens with this award in recognition of a commitment to curbing abusive litigation in this year's legislative session. Legislators like Representative Stephens are vital in the fight for civil justice reform," said CCJL executive director Jeff Weist.

This year, the General Assembly confronted significant issues affecting civil liability, including: protecting employers' rights to communicate with their employees, strengthening landowners' defenses against liability claims, and funding new judges to handle the state's increasing caseload.

Amy's voting record on these and other important liability issues earned the Senator the CCJL's recognition.

About the Colorado Civil Justice League (CCJL) - The League is a state-wide coalition dedicated exclusively to ending abusive lawsuits and creating a fair civil justice system in Colorado. A fair justice system protects those who create jobs, innovate new technologies and provide needed goods and services from being tied up in expensive and groundless litigation. Formed in 2000, its membership is open to individuals, businesses of all sizes, government entities, associations and non-profits. On the web at: www.ccjl.org.
